    I have an extra license as well as a database dump that I got for working on a clients site, I'm planning on setting it up Friday. The dump is on vbulletin 3 but I'm thinking about upgrading it to vbulletin 4, I saw last night I also had a vbseo license that I had forgotten about.

    If you were to make a new site, what version of vBulletin would you use?

    I'd go with vBulletin 4 because you can implement the tagging/alerts feature and it'll really help your forum's activity. And plus, I'm so used to using the software, why would I use vBulletin 3?

    I'm not entirely sure if vBulletin 5 is the right software to chose from.

    Do you have a link to the tagging/alert feature or is it built in?

    thanks

    I wouldn't choose any of these 3.

    4 => IMO dead
    5 => lol

    I don't see any option...
    It doesn't make sense to use any of these 3.
    Even mybb would be a better choise because it's SUPPORTED and not EOL!

    Using vbulletin in year 2013 is like
    • digging your own grave

    If money is an issue, then there are pretty good free alternatives, which do get regular updates.

    I would say vB4 just because of the still standing support that you most likely will find with that software.

    Do vBulletin 5 for the lulz and to see if you can actually start a community using it.

    I'd probably go with 4, I wouldn't even think about 5...

    VB3 > all other VBs sadly... But, if you are serious about making a site might as well go 4 bro..

    personally, vB 4.2.x branch

    reasons

    1. I've had clients I've worked with privately for server optimisations, easily handle 10-30+ million posts + 5,000+ new posts/day + 2,000-11,000 vB users online (default session timeout) and handles it better than vB 3.8.x.
    2. Yes PHP 5.4 official support coming and well works fine with MySQL 5.6.10 from personal testing
    i.e. Nginx web server, PHP 5.4 and MySQL 5.6.10 (testing) using my Centmin Mod project nginx server stack environment which defaults to MariaDB 5.2.14 MySQL. Was testing MySQL 5.6.10 at the time for Centmin Mod :)

    I wouldn't use vBulletin at all now, but if I had to say anything, go vBulletin 4. Has some new features, is generally supported pretty well by both the company and community and isn't the trainwreck than vBulletin 5 is at the moment.

    I'll likely go with vBulletin 4 and if the site does as well as I expect, I'll try and save some money to get a xenforo license.
