That depends on which version. If you are not running vb3.8.7 PL3 then you should upgrade.
Please search for my and PaulM's posts about PHP 5.3 on vbulletin.com for specifics on what exactly the issues are.

Mind that many addons will no longer work as designed, because of the 'new by reference' and deprecated TYPE issue.

Another point to take notice of is MySQL 5.5 which is not supported by vb3.8 but can be easily fixed. This too can be found on vbulletin.com by searching for 'db alter class'.

    Yes i am running 3.8.7PL3

I am not much tech guy and my partner handles all these but unfortunately past 10days he is on leave due to personal issue and i am left to handle this by myself now:unsure:

If i need to upgrade to vB4 then i have to think of switching my forums to XF but XF do not have settings for private discussion, which i need desperately:oops: need to check on this...

Whatchoo talking about? There's Private Conversations. And there are settings where you can make a forum private just like vBulletin. The only thing is, it behaves a little differently, the options are worded a little differently on xenForo.

Thanks Carlos, though i worked with few themes for XF never had chance to check the settings in full.

Will play around a bit more with XF and i feel then i will be moving my support forums @ Minerskinz to XF soon!

EDIT: by the way what i meant is not PM/PC, in vb i have set a forums where client opens a new thread to discuss about his custom requirements and this thread is accessible to me(admin) and the thread starter, others are not able to view the thread or read.

It's iffy. A client of mine just dropped me an email after his host switched to 5.3. Specifically his arcade no longer works nor does the post_thanks mod. He has a vB 4 license sitting around so we're going to try that.

99% of the errors with PHP 5,3 is just to edit the lines causing the error and remove the & that is next to the = sign. This goes for mods and initi.php and classs_core.php.

Hm, I've never seen a mod like that. I almost thought you meant thread moderation, until the last sentence. lol.

It's basically a private forum. Only the thread starter and moderators can see threads in it. There were instructions on TAZ for setting it up. It's all forum permissions. I was amazed the first time I seen it -- it's all vB stock.

I Think it's basically "Can view others threads' No. but it was a little more involved than that.

And thanks for the code tip to make 3.8 work again @Carlos

Yes its basic settings with forums permission and usergroup, as Dan Hutter said we set permission as 'Can View others Thread' to no and set other permissions like 'Create New threads' & reply to Own Threads' Yes...:)
