The topic about their tech problems had people talking about how maybe vBulletin were upgrading the official forums. But I do have to wonder one thing.

How will they cope with a script with less features than vBulletin 4 including no CMS? Will they even upgrade the support forums despite the script being nearly unusable for big boards like their own?

Of course they will. They'll almost have to once they release the "Gold" version.
Otherwise, who's going to buy it?

That's true, but how they going to cope? It's not at all ready to be released and lacks so many features than the official site could literally collapse due to it.

They can upgrade, because they "don't use" their cms as landing page www.vbulletin.com (it's a magento shop^^)
They use the cms as article/documentation base, but i think that nobody cares about it (and they probably know it, so they have no problem with loosing it)
Or have you ever visited https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/content.php in the last time?

That's true, they don't use it for a landing page. But come on, don't they realise that people are going to notice a whole section of website going missing?

And that their search engine rankings might take a nose dive due to the changed URL structure?

I have no trust in their new version, as long as the official forums are still on 4. I mean, if you want to convince me to migrate to the next generation of your platform, at least do it yourself and then take my money (not all admins buy the platform for new sites, so many are expected to upgrade from 4 to 5).

LOL, just checked the front page of their cms as suggested and they haven't updated it since last June. So, I guess they really aren't using the cms. How can a software company release a new version of its flagship product with less features than the previous version?

I find it funny how IB have many huge and active forums all on their system and then they build a really simple software that is incomplete and not good for even there own big forums like PPrune. Good job guys!

I hope they move all of Internet Brands forums to vb5. Especially those competing with my sites.
But seriously: that will not happen. I doubt they will even move vb.com to vb5.

They'll have to convert sooner or later, otherwise people will wonder why their software isn't used on their official site. Sure it won't happen prior to the software coming out of beta, but they're going to have convert it sooner or later.

And I wouldn't say they won't move at least some of their forums to it. After all, they've already shown they care little about how well their forums do and have destructively moved forums to their software regardless.

I would bet a large sum of money they are in the process of upgrading vbulletin.com's main forum to vBulletin 5 this very second.

I wasn't kidding... Why do you think they are in "read only database" mode for 48 hours now?

Well... if you're not joking. They are rushing doing that, as vBulletin 5 isn't gold status yet.

Well, they already missed their "by the end of 2012" deadline... I suspect they have a push to get it out at all cost at this point.

The reality is that by *my* standards, vB5 will never be gold status if it's built upon the framework it's built on. So might as well release it now and get it over with...

I don't get what you mean by "read only" mode. I just logged into vBulletin.com and could have started a new thread in off topic section.

Just spotted this posted on XenForo though: http://vbtest.biz/forum/forum

So looks like they are testing things for sure.
