My name is Patty. I'm married and we have two awesome dogs that we rescued from the pound. Our girls are 21 and 23.......they are in school and just about on their own. I'm handling it better than I thought I would! LOL I own/run an "un-official" Coast Guard spouse/family forum. It's been 10 years and still going strong.
There was only one Coast Guard spouse forum when I married my husband. To me, it always seemed that when anyone asked a question they got attacked. I felt that there could be a forum where we could all be adults and if not, I could show you the door. LOL A lot of rainbows and fluff, but great information available. The rules are very strict, but it seems to work because it's outlasted all the other forums that opened since then. I started out with just my friends posting. I was happy when there was one post a day! It still amazes me to see what it's become today.
Welcome to the community, Patt. How big is your forum? How many new posts a day does it receive? How about new members per day? Daily logins as well? Sorry for the questions, I have an interesting mind.
Keep in mind that I routinely purge members every 6 months and I also have a website that has a lot of information submitted by forum members. For the month of January there was an average of 2,280 visits, totaling 70,696 for the month. Right now there are 2,411 Members and 3,088,684 Posts on the forum. I approved 409 members this month. Some people join just to get access to the relocation information. If they want to participate they have to make an introduction. Otherwise, those accounts are deleted after 7 days. I am definitely not in any league with all of you knowledge wise. I've learned what I had to know and just get by.....but it works.
Those are excellent stats. My forum still hasn't hit a million posts. I'm still working towards that. What type of servers help power your site? Do you have a lot of supporters? What are some of your biggest threads? What's your favorite forum software? I've yet to prune members, do you email a member before pruning their account? What are some of your most replied and viewed threads? How many users log in on a daily basis? Sorry turned this into an interview because I'm so curious of this big board. @Brandon you can move it if you'd like.
It's a closed forum, but you two are more than welcome to come in with my back door account. Just let me know.
