Will vBulletin 5 be what destroys vBulletin?

So you guys think, there is no chance at all for vB5 to become a perfect product in near future?!

Past 8years vB helped me to make a decent earning, love vB and hate to see it go down...

 

I wouldn't say there is no chance, it's possible, but they are again trying to re-invent the wheel and may very well be looking to increase what they charge so we'll see.

Whenever you start making changes that your users didn't specifically ask for you are taking a big risk of alienating your client base.

 

Hopefully they can figure it out, but I'd bet money they can't unfortunately... it's kind of sad what vBulletin has become.

 

I've moderated a large forum before. It does not change that it's a terrible way to do things.

I don't use Facebook. A lot of things done on social networks is a mix between things being automatic and users moderating.

 

Let me put it in layman's terms for you then. Those infractions are pretty much those "detention" points in school, or those "written up" reports that managers use at your last job. You got written up? You got a pink slip to be fired. In the vB3 line (vB4 uses it, but it was not designed by vBSI), YOU, the moderator/administrator can hand out thse red or yellow slips with points on them telling them they've been warned. You use up that amount of warnings? You're banned from the forums.

As it stands, from what it sounds, vB5 doesn't have that system in place. Which leaves more work for the moderator, or administrator. It's gone back to the vB2 days, where it's easy to get away with the rules if the moderator was not there to see what this user did.

 

And quite honestly that's the least of my concerns. Infractions are a waste of time. If members can't respect the TOS they agreed to then [****][****][****][****] them. They can go elsewhere. Other issues, like the inability to import the CMS are more pressing. Many of my sites use either the CMS or vBadvanced CMPS or WordPress as their landing page. The landing pages connect Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, CafePress and other site functions to the forums. Without that functionality, vB5 is more or less useless. I know I can build the page myself but that's not the point. I should be able to import what I spent countless hours building once before.

 

Personally, I've already decided I'm done with vBulletin. The vB 4 release was bungled but I was willing to give the company a second chance. IB continues to show no respect for their customer's intelligence with the vB 5 situation.

I'll run vB 4 till the wheels fall off (no more security updates) then move on elsewhere. Right now IPB looks like the only viable alternative. Hopefully that changes in the next couple of years.

 

That's a good thing. Now they can't leave junk on people's profiles and infract with little thought or communication.

 

Well, the competition isn't exactly closing the door on IB. XenForo is a dead stick and IPB is nickle and diming its customers to the point where many have returned to vB4x or even vB3x. Frankly, at this point I think the developers who pulls their heads out of their asses the quickest win.
