I see the "vB4 Road Map & Versioning" thread has now been closed because the users are actually wondering if vbulletin 4 is dead or not and have brought up several good points.
This is in the licenses customer feedback forum and was started and closed by vbulletin staff.
Some of the points brought up were the development of vbulletin 4 since the talk of vbulletin 5 started and I tend to agree that little to no development has happen and wont likely happen until vbulletin 5 "gold" is released.
This is unacceptable in my books and I think many other vbulletin users wold agree with that. One major thing that bugs me is vbulletin 5 is in no way shape or form to go live on any site that isn't purely made as a "hobby" site. It's missing key features that allow moderations, advertising and promotion, yet this is all we hear about from the staff at vB.
I know the dev's all have to answer to a boss, so I can't really be upset at them but what else are we to do. I know vBulletin 4 was making great headway since 4.0.8, but has stalled for the last 7 or 8 months with no improvements and it doesn't look like anything will happen for at least a few more months still.

What are your thoughts, do you think VBSI is on a slow death march to the end. We all remember the headaches that vbulletin 4 had when it first came out and it was almost 18 months after release before I even suggested it to my clients, at this rate I'll start suggesting other script before I even consider vbulletin 5. It seems vbulletin 4 will be EOL before to long, and this bothers me deeply as well.

Of course they don't, they only care about making as many customers as possible buy the vBulletin 5 upgrade. After all, what do they get from developing minor point releases? Nothing, because the fees are now for upgrades from one major version to another, not for going from vBulletin 4.2 to 4.3 to 4.4, etc.

IMO yes, but the brand vBulletin stands still for "professional Forum Software" in the heads of the people:(
    e.g. my newest client

I requested that he uses xenforo 1.2 RTE (ragtek edition) but he was too scared because of the bad reputation, lawsuite and missing features(even they were available as addons)

IPB: was also no option for him:(

NOW, where it comes to customization and where i showed how easy is to is to implement it with my own framework and how complicated or (even impossible) it is with vB4 and where i refered him to some threads on vb.com he sees, that it was a mistake.
But now it's too late for a move, because we both agree, that it's not a good idea to change the software ATM.

No. vB3 has been around eight years and they still haven't declared it End of Life.
They will continue to develop vB4 for a long time.
The problem is simply that they don't have enough developers to work on both vB4 and vB5 and perform quality assurance control on both.
It would be a death knell to stop development of vB4.

it's EOL since 2011! or did you see any changes?

Even vB4 isn't working with the newest php versions, so i really really don't think that vB3 will do it:D
