I would seriously consider not pushing vb5 upgrade on clients because of this.. well and that it's still in beta.
The URL's changing is big and something I hadn't noticed during my testing, but I'd rather send a client to xenforo over vbulletin even though xenforo development has been slow.

Call it whatever you want, it's not ready for production.
I remember vb4 looked like total crap when it was in beta, vb5 is looking much better in comparison IMO.

I'm not so sure it's Beta. It looks like Alpha quality to me.

Beta = Pretty much everything is done we're just looking for bugs. vB 5 in it's current state isn't only looking for bugs they're looking for alien life forms!

I'm with you on the fact that it shouldn't have been released now. It's just beyond ridiculous that IB would expect anyone to pay for this software in it's current state. IMHO, in this state the Beta should have been released for free to existing vB 4 license holders. Offer it for sale when it hits RC status.

The whole argument by vB Staff that if you buy the beta you still have access to 3 & 4 is just silly. Why would you or I pay more to access software I already I have a license for only to help you find bugs the QA team should be finding on it's own.

PS: Brandon are you going to set up a test board somewhere? I'd like to play around with a bit from the user's prospective.

I deleted the vB.com forum bookmark off my daily list --- Way too much crazy going on over there.

Even if you make a good and valid point it's all drowned out by all the naysayers and bitching back and fourth.

If I were a mod over there I'd piss everyone off and merge all the vB 5 sucks threads into one giant ball of crap. :p

    Interesting post by Wayne though:

    Not sure what this shows..

On relatively clean versions of 5 and 4.2.0, I get:

    vb5 - 200
vb4.2.0 - 241 Less tables are good, means they optimized the databases, using less queries right? Then, that means they need to work on the other issues. @Dan Hutter I agree, I have the thread bookmarked at 9 Pages, its at 12 pages now, and I only see bitching going on, no clues on how to help them to improve it. I won't upgrade to the beta version until I see improvements, nor will I buy vB5 if those loading issues aren't fixed.

I have a feeling it will be a long time before we see a production ready vB 5. IB will most-definitely go gold before the end of the year but that won't mean anything. I'll take a look around 5.1, and plan on maybe upgrading for 5.2.

Unless that activity stream BS is fully disableable like 4. I definitely won't be upgrading. It just makes navigation that much harder.

I don't want it either. But, does vb5 have at least have a new notifications system so we don't have to use plugins to get the feature?

Such as, user gets quoted, or @mentioned, they receive a notification to about what post they were tagged in, blog post, etc... I'm hoping it does because I currently use DB Tech http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/vbecommerce.php?do=product&productid=20

Then we also their "Thanks" plugin. Without these two features, my community wouldn't like vB5 either. Thanks get used a lot, same with the notifications/tagging

That's pretty ridiculous and just wreaks of greed. At least the EU has laws protecting their people against this kind of crap. XF policy of one transfer per license is a good compromise.

So I'm upgrading a clients site to the latest 4.2 this weekend and they had an old vb3 license. They couldn't "upgrade" their license, they had to buy the full thing again.
I don't know if it was a bug in the system, but they're not the type to wait so they got the full vb5. I'll be upgrading to the latest 4.2 ;)

Wayne and co said on the boards it was a bug in the logic. It was supposed to be fixed 3 days ago, lol. Supposed they you can call sales and have them manually process the upgrade.
