So, I've always tried to do this - allowing other webmasters to interview me - with the main focus being on my community. I was wondering though - how many forum owners here try to get interviewed by others?

Exposure is the key to one's success on the net, and I believe, if you get interviewed - there's people out there who are interested in what you have to say.

So, do you bother having other people interview you? It's a good way to get a few extra links in the interviewer allows it.

    But, what do you think?

I don't specifically look for them, no. If someone wants to interview me, then awesome, and I'm more than happy to participate or send a link back their way, too. I don't really expect anyone to click through and want to join my site and haven't had any success with that, but it -is- a backlink or two and those are always good to have.

I think interviews is a good idea. I would guess you could have webmasters who benefit from your forum interview you so that the contents of the interview can be published online with your backlink. It also provides information about your forum and brings light to its existance for people who have never heard of the forum.

I gave few interviews both in Romanian and English based on my experiences as a freelance web designer and community manager. And am open for any other interviews as well. It's a good promotion method (more of a brand establishing than pure traffic). It's good if you have achieved something though, since interviewing just anybody will be annoying for the site members.

I think interviews about your forum are a great idea.

First off, it saves from people asking a bunch of questions later on if they've seen what you said already first hand. It's exposure so how could it be anything BUT good.

But you do have to keep in mind one thing. If these are fellow webmasters, if they have sites similar to yours, then they're your competition. So be careful on what secrets you potentially give out. Remember, for all of us with like sites, we're competition to each other. So try not to give out information that makes YOUR life harder by making a competitor's easier.

That's a good point. I don't think most people are -trying- to get your secrets when they ask to interview you. I do think you could easily give away tips and advice to them that could push them ahead of you if they start doing them, too.

True, but even if they aren't necessarily trying to get any secrets on how you go about things, you can accidentally let stuff just fly out on account of you trying to be nice. These things are kind of "pick your brain" moments where the things you say CAN come back to haunt you.

But, if you don't have any competitors, then its a whole different story.;)
