I know some of us may have new forums, or old forums, so why don't we share our communities' ages here? My community is about 10 months old with over 50k posts, and yours?
Threads : 13,047 Posts: 162,850Members: 4,354 It has been around since 2008.. I took over last year. And it had a ton more posts that I ended up removing that were cluttering it up like dead promos and non working bots. I prolly cut clost to 100K posts. I really hate clutter.. Plus most of it was in an area not seen by search engines anyway...
Ya, my community has been around for that long as well. We had multiple hackings that knocked us down for a while, and then my stint in Jail and I couldn't afford to pay the server fees. But, my community is still pushing after all those previous problems. You have a lot of content for being opened for 3 years. What was your biggest year in terms of traffic and activity? @baby1 That's quite amazing. How many staff members do you have there?
Well, last year we would have about 500 people online a day... But the scene kinda died down and people noticed that there was money to be made in the niche.. So tons of sites opened that are competition.. Though, most of those sites are basically the owners trying only to make as much money as can(cash grab sites). I think ours has more of a community than everyone else's sites. Though, it gets more organic traffic now than people I think.. Which is not bad since that traffic pays for the site. Last month according to analytics : 34,018 Visits 16,244 Unique Visitors 65,989 Pageviews 2.57 Pages/Visit 00:02:47 Avg. Time on Site 48.99% Bounce Rate 40.42% % New Visits So, yeah its kinda slow compared to normal, but...Eh what can you do..

That usually happens when people find out there's money involved. I'm assuming that these competitor sites aren't putting a dent in your communities' activity, correct?
People bounce back in forth between the sites. But there was like an epidemic of new sites once people learned ours was making the kind of money it was. Though, they were ill informed because the reason we make the money we do is off traffic more than subs.. All the other sites are like focused on subs with only monthly subscriptions and they are not even coming close to making what we do in adsense every month
Ya, we had that problem before with users bouncing back and forth between us and one of my competitors. Now that same competitor is dead and most users are on my community. Hardwork pays off. I know we also get a fair share of money from adsense and we're in a small niche - where there isn't too many ads for our niche - I guess its good. And plus, all your competitors really make your community even bigger because they're trying to mimic your success, and really, the one with the most knowledge, dedication, effort, and marketing skills usually wins in the long run, and of course, I see that you're winning because your revenue is a lot more than theirs. Great work my friend!
I created my forum in October 2010. We have since had 93K posts, and we got no more than 100 until january - when we opened officially.
I am not much of a community builder. My forum has been up since June, 2004, but only has 57k+ posts by 700+ members. On the plus side, I am glad I was able to preserve all the content despite a change from phpBB 2.x to vBulletin 3.x in December, 2007, and a change from vBulletin 3.x to xenForo 1.0 in December, 2011. Also, I am grateful for all the people who contributed to my forum especially since it was not from exchange or deals. I have not been promoting lately so it is not particularly surprising that few guests stumble by now and then, especially as mine is a stand-alone forum with no focus.
My community is 5 months and 20 days old. We have over 13,000 posts and almost 600 members. We currently average anywhere between 70-130 post a day, with the off days every now and then of 30-60 ten sometimes up to 200.
My community is 3 years old and we have 30,000 members, and 120k posts. I have a few but thats the biggest. We average about 70-100 posts a day
