What Made You Create Your Forum?

So, what made you create the forum you're running now? I created Chatting Time as I was tired of all these forums with strict rules, and I just wanted a laid-back general chat community because as of August of 2010, I hadn't seen too many laid-back forums like mine. Probably one or two and that was it. What about you guys?

 

I created adminBB in high hopes for it... to help out other admins, and for it to be a laid back community as well. I see a good future for it.

 

I made my forum to offer quicker and better services than the other promotion forums also unique information, services, etc. To make it a better place for promoters so they can actually benefit from my forum.

 

I made mine for old friends of mine who were tired of other forums they were on, hence the term Revillution. We were kinda tired of this one place we were all members of and the way they ran things, so my forum served as a Refuge for that forum but over time we just turned into a bigger community of friends and we kept it going for a few years now after a few name changes and such, but yeah.

 

Oh sounds nice, your community is pretty decent and laid back. I like it.

 

I started a youtube group a few years ago. I heard a credible rumor that YouTube was going to get rid of the groups soon so I decided to make a website for my group.

 

ahh thats pretty interesting.

 

I just wanted to run a forum; the subject was of secondary concern to me. I also wanted my place to last unlike so many stand-alone, general discussion forums, and indeed my forum is still around six years later.

Thanks. As for the activity, however, there is not that much, as the forum still relies on my word-of-mouth and I have not had much time to advertise, but I am glad that a core group of members still keep participating regularly, including all of my staff who joined in 2004.

 

Thats nice to know staff like that exist...

well I like a music so I made a board about music but also with some off-topic sections so the rule applies

Created one to see if I could do something productive and fun on my time off. Found out it was harder than I expected. I'm better as a member than a Admin to be honest. Still though I keep going. 2004? Man that's long time. Must be a huge forum.

Nah. There are only 55,669 posts. I believe I would have a lot more if I ever made use of post "exchanges" and "packages," or if I had a forum games/spam section. Also, it was all word of mouth for just another general discussion forum; I had no website or niche to draw people in without my effort.

 

But still 6 years to garner members to your forum. Must make it fairly a active forum. Besides you have all those same members coming back. That's a sign of a very successful forum in my opinion.

 

I am glad you think so. I am so used to hearing people say that success is measured by more, more, more posts, but not a core group of members who enjoy each other's company so much that they naturally submit good content and have rewarding conversations. Several times, I gave as an example two members who ended up moving in together after meeting at my forum and having conversations in topics, visitor comments, private message, and other means through the forum.
