It's hard as running a forum can be a full time job, I was doing 50 hours a week and then doing 4-5 hours online as well.

I remember when I worked 12 hour shifts. I rarely had time for my community, but I paid all the bills and posted when I could. Working sucks, but its always nice to have extra pocket cash. It's just about having good time management, and managing your time good so that you have time for both.

Yea I agree, and sleep is another factor. If you have good sleep you will still have the energy to get on after having a long day at work.

Most people dont work for "extra pocket cash" they work to support their family and pay all their numerous bills (like myself). But I agree, working does suck most of the time. :P

I enjoy my job it allows me to enjoy my free time by being able to afford to go on holidays etc as well as keeping a roof over my families head.

Yup, so is your sleep schedule out of style now? I know with a great staff member and loyal community, the owner will do just fine while the community picks up the slack.

This is why I chose a genera that isn't so tense. Promotion forums are way too much work, and there are days when I'm lucky to have time to post at all. I might be up to checking up on a couple things and then that's it. So this is why i chose a genera that won't take up so much of my time, then I can still come and go as I please and not worry too much about what's going on. I now have a decent staff team backing me up, so this helps in the long run as well.

Running a Chat forum is pretty honest easy, so yea I see what you are saying. Running Webmaster forums can be very time consuming, and require alot of attention.

I too have a full time job and run two forums. I'm always very busy, but that's how I like it.
    Don't get much sleep though.

So, how many people here have had to hire more staff members to run their community because your job takes up most of your time?

I have a full time 40 hr a week job and I also have my own business which keeps me busy from time to time.
On top of that, I have my son (who feels like a full time job at times) and a house to take care of and local community activities to partake in. :)

in short.. I stay pretty busy

    you can't find work?

    Not in this economy.

I live in a small city, surrounded by big cities, but opportunities are scarce.

Every time I try for an application, I don't get anything.

I used to be able to get a job in a tough economy.

That doesn't stop a person from being successful online ;)

Also have you thought about learning how to develop and write code?
There will always be a high demand for that skill even in a local environment.

I am a web designer and this is my main business. Not to mention we're currently in NYC in our 6 month 'vacation' there, so I am also busy with seeing the City. The business is financing the forums, since these are investments for me and, since I need to be online all day anyway, I can also keep an eye on my 'properties'.
