Do you plan before making a site?

I am always planning before making the site rather than just do it as we go along like the other sites; it proves to be much easier and much quicker.

What about you?

 

Yea, I always brainstorm ideas and think things through as it always helps you out at the end. Towards everything, not just before starting a forum.

 

I always brainstorm and plan thoroughly, like Kaiser said though, I do it for everything and not just in forums. I do agree that planning ahead helps things to go more smoothly later on or when you encounter problems and planning can also be useful to work out what features may be important or necessary to your site.

 

Well said Jack. Yea if you are planning on starting something big, or you really want to do a good job on it, brainstorming is best. Even your teachers teach you that in school

I've always had a minor brainstorming session, but otherwise nothing too big a I tend to work/think up things as I go along

 

I always plan with my knowledge, and people that are aware of my site, it makes things easier for us, because if you brainstorm, usually the idea is the best. Because if you don't brainstorm, you never know what you have for an idea.,

 

I dont do a major brainstorm either, I also think up things while going along.

 

I always plan out anything before actually doing it. Its proves to be much better.

I always plan before I put it into action, if it's a brand new forum I usually have a big think about what I want the forum to be called, what would be a good url, what would be a good theme, a good slogan then I have a huge brainstorm on what forums would work, how I can set the forums out, what other sections would suit, what add ons would work for that specific forum etc. Once I have it all noted down and I am quite happy with it I will create a test forum to the plan I have to make sure it is all good then I will create the forum I will put live and keep the test forum for test reasons. Find this always works out best.

 

Great planning method Shortie, when I plan its very similar although I dont write anything down.

 

That's similar to what I do. I pretty much think of a good subject and name. I then figure out what I want from my forum. Do I want good MODS? Do I want advanced usergroups? Questions like that. Answers like that usually help me figure out which forum software I want to use. I usually use only free ones, because I really don't want to spend money on something that might fail. After that, I jot down the first couple of sections I want and some expansions that will come in later. Then I think of simple promotion ideas. And this all takes about 5 minutes, then I'm finished.
