Do you offer your members Premium/VIP Membership as a way to generate revenue from your website? How well does it sell & what are some features you offer them?

I sell products on my website, so I generate a reasonable amount of revenue from that. Extra donations are always appreciated though!

    Support The Voice!

For $30, you can support The Voice Internet Radio in purchasing new music and helping to pay for our station expenses. We'll give you some perks for that too, of course:

-Become a member of the Supporters usergroup, which gets you a fancy new user title and username color
-Option to change your custom title (if you choose not to keep it as "The Voice Supporter")
-Option to include your forum, blog, or other website's link in our Affiliates section (see [thread removed] for details; the post count rule does not apply)
-Discounts on purchases in our District Lines store (you'll receive a coupon code)

The upgrade is $30 for one year of upgrades, and the subscription does not automatically renew itself.

Unfortunately, we have nothing in our store because they have wacky minimum order requirements, but that's a story for another day. xP

You offer some pretty nice features but to be honest for a forum of your size, $30 is way over the limit. I offer Premium Membership for half that price here on AdminBB.

I should have mentioned that mine is a year-long subscription, so it's actually the same rate. ;)

Yes I offer VIP membership. I also run a Phantasy Star Online game server and offer VIP membership for that, for $30, it gives users further access to donating for in-game items. :D I've made $101.05 from ONE user/player in 2 days. No joke. :D

People are probably more willing to give him larger amounts of money because he runs a radio station free of charge.

That could be, I can see him earning a good profit once his forum grows.

I don't offer Premium membership on any of my sites, but I would not be opposed to the idea. I had an idea about the Premium Membership that might be helpful.

This version of the Premium Membership would let the person donating money name their reward, depending on how much they are willing to pay. It's not the 'one size fits all' membership package. But, of course, they would be expected to pay MUCH more. The person wanting to make a donation makes the offer and tells you what they want and how much they are willing to pay to get it. And, if it's mutually agreeable, you take them up on the deal.

That might net a few more Premium Memberships, cause they could customize it to their own needs.

Or, have several levels of Premium Membership, with the benefits increasing depending on the amount donated.

So for instance, one person might want more free ad space, but would be willing to pay more. Another Premium Member might want their own private sub-forum but would pay for that too. You could charge $100's every year per private sub-forum. If you had 10 private sub-forums going at one time, that would easily be over $1000 a year. You would still have administrator rights and full control over what was put on the space. It is your site after all. Any admin could use this idea if they wanted.

Of course, those are just ideas and they could be adapted to the individual situation.

Yea, you have wait for your forum to grow in order to start selling things on your forum such as Premium membership and adspace. Because no one wants to buy from a new forum which doesn't offer much.

On your forum, do you have VIP, Premium, etc. usergroups? If so, what are they called, how does one earn those titles, and how long do terms for these last?

I have a group like this on my forum. The members in it are known as "V.I.P. Members". I think it a useful way of rewarding members. To earn this title, a user must be helpful and kind to other members, win time in a contest, or buy it from other members.

No, I don't quite yet as we don't quite have the userbase/activity for it.

I do not offer it because of the size of my forum. Maybe if it grew into a large forum it would be worth it. But for the few members I have, why should I give a advantage to a member who might have more money then the other members. My forum only costs me $6 a month to run, so I don't need help with money to run it.

I have plenty of features to offer my VIP members, and since my forum is new I have it set at a very cheap price.

Yea I see alot of mistakes forum owners make when they try to sell Premium Membership on their new forums, where members don't have a reason to purchase anyway if their is no content since the forums are new.
