Do you use Stats Counters for your website? In my early days of running websites I use to use them. But I really dont find them useful anymore. But if I was to use one it would be whos.amung.us.
I still use the one cPanel provides me with; its correct and it makes life easier by putting a unique number in.
Im not talking about that, thats different. A stats counter is for example: Which many people place on their websites.
Why do members need to know how many times a page has been loaded? I used to for sites and in the younger days of forum owning, but all they do is slow down the loading of your site if they are externally hosted, etc.
I used them when I had a forum and some free blogs...Now I don't use them because I don't see the point of them :S Btw,this is 24,000 post on AdminBB
Yeah have used them a lot of times, it makes your forum look 'good' I guess if you have loads of hits.
why do you think it makes your site look good to show how many hits it's getting? Do you think other members will care how many hits your site is getting?
You'd be surprised what some people new to the forum thing think of hits, they think a site with 100's of thousands of hits must be active.
I dont really think people care, just a way for the owner to show off and feel good about it or something like that.
So your saying that a forum that had little to no activity, but had hundreds of thousands of hits would make people think "wow that forum is really active" somehow I don't think so... Yea I know what you mean, after polling a load of people about them when I used to have one, the majority said that they did'nt care how many hits the site got because half the time, they just lie because they would produce incorrect stats, etc.
High hits are good if you're trying to sell your site, because high hits means high ad impressions. And high ad impressions means more money from the advertising. That's the only use for it besides being novel that I've seen.
Well this is about using stats counter on your website.. which are not accurate and can be easily changed.
Ahh, I forgot to say I was talking about things like Google Analytics. I forgot that you were talking about that kind of hit counter. Sorry
Awstats from the cPanel and Google Analytics is the best. I used to use stats counters, but not anymore
No, I would never use one. However the users online in the past 24 hours is sort of a stat counter lol. I think those things look crappy and are a weak selling point for me when I visit a forum.
