Selling adspace can be very helpful to you as it is a great source of income for you so that you can pay for hosting, domains, and other things etc. So do you sell adspace forum to cover costs of running it? Why or why not?
I preffer to gain the main revenue from my file uploading sites and other services rather than fill my forum with ugly ads
Not currently, no. I was originally thinking about doing so, but for now, I'm fine without having ads all over the site. I may offer that and/or radio advertisements (on the station, that is) in the future.
I do enable users to buy ads on my site. I've get to receive anything, except from Google, but that's it.
Exactly; there's no point in annoying my current/potential users with advertisements when I don't really need them at the moment, and I don't want them plastered all over the forum anyway, to be honest. I did just introduce a supporting membership option for those who do want to help the forum monetarily, so I figure if I really need it, I can just boost the benefits there to entice people to chip in.
I show ads to guest (since they don't add any content to my site) but I don't show them to registered members (because they "make" the forum and I don't want to put them off with ads). I'm not sure about donations - do people really actually donate, or do you only get an odd bit now and then? Cheers, Shaun
I never received donations, what you can do is make a premium members group and give them extra privileges, thats what I do, and all the funds go toward adminbb and nothing else.
Recently I have been making tons selling adspace.. I have enough to move over to VPS for 1 year. Thinking about it.
I am selling some but not much as I want to keep the forum free from ads as much as possible. Though a couple of quick footer links are fine so that is what I am doing.
Yea I know, but sometimes it gets slow when other clients abuse resources and that has happened alot before, I would like it fast all the time. Its still a thought. Back on topic.
Not right now, I'm keeping my site free of ads at least for the time being. Might offer some premium services later but for now the costs are minimal anyway.
Thats the right thing to do, theres no point in adding adspace when your forum is small because people wont really buy.
