If you were to one day step down from your position as Admin. Would you hand over the reigns to the next person in your Chain of Command? Or just close it entirely?

The person I have as "co-founder" would not be able to pay the bills but the person after would, so I would hand it over to him. He is a trusted friend as well and I would have no problem leaving it in his hands. I actually have him call the shots when I go on vacation or if I'm too busy. I've got two sites, one that is quite solid right now and one that is just sitting around waiting to get off the ground when the time is right. As I said before, the first I would hand over. The second I would close entirely as there is no chain of command. It's a group project but I'm the director of the project, everyone else considers themselves as employees.

It really depends, I wouldnt hand it over, as I pay the bills. And that I founded AdminBB completely and put all that hard work into it. Nobody could run it like how I do, so it would end up being dead.

Well thanks for taking me out of the picture, lol I would probably pass it on, or if no one would want to run it, then close it. It's better for the community that way, than to pawn it off to the highest bidder, etc.

Haha, I know you could run it well if you wanted to, but lets face it you have your own website that needs you more, and you would dedicate less time.

Giving the recent news, it may very well not have a future, I'm now in talks with one of the former managers to see if I can strike a deal with him because I don't trust Host Dime that much...

Well why not give control over to those two? That way the Co-Founder would have someone along side him or her to help pay for stuff.

The co-founder I have is good with coming up with ideas and getting work done but the social skills required to lead a community is what he lacks.

Yea then there is no point of letting him run one, because if you aren't social you shouldn't even be on a forum lol.

If I'm going to be kept waiting 14+ hours, and then not get my question asked, then yes it must be bad...

I would try to see who all on my staff team would be willing to take the forum on after I was through with it. If no one was interested, I'd probably either close it or sell it. Close it for sure as I have had problems with trying to sell a forum before. Thankfully it wasn't for real money.

Selling would be a waste anyway... I would have just kept it online if you think about it. Completely killing the forum wouldnt do any better.

Well, to be honest, still being totally new to forum owning didn't help matters either. I knew by then what to look for in your average staff members, but I was totally clueless as to passing the forum on. Little did I know that this nut knew nothing about phpBB, and knew nothing about free hosts in general. We were on ProphpBB at the time, so we were using phpBB3, but evidently this kid had never owned a forum on that particular host, as he had no clue what he was doing at all. So after that, I knew for sure that I will never go that route again.

This is true. We've tried to run AdminBB without you and it didn't work. It's not to say we were bad in running it. It's just that were not as good "Administrating" as you are with it.

Sometimes a forum can't succeed without the owners' touch on it as far as posting, updates, etc. I think it's because the members feel comfortable with the owner, therefore they want a person to be posting about with them at all times.

Happened to me last year when I was dealing with some health issues. I passed over everything to my co-owner and he ran the show for me until I came back.

I wouldn't close it entirely. If I were to get busy with something or face health related issues or family problems, I'd be happy to hand over the reign to a co-owner or moderator. But I'll make sure that I drop in from time to time to see how things are going.
