So rumor has it that vBulletin 5 will be released later this year, possibly more info at forumcon.

Will you purchase the upgrade, and if so, will you only purchase it if you get a discount?

I will if they offer a good price and I like what is offered. At the moment I want to buy a suite licence but seeing how they are going to be saying something about vb 5 or whatever it is, I will wait.

If the price is right(same as the others), then of course. I'll wait for some reviews though for a better decision. I'm hoping to introduce a new line of features for the social areas of the forum.

I'm sure I'll have to purchase it at some point, it's always good (for me) to know what's in the latest builds for my freelance stuff.

Same here. I'm not running vB on any of my active sites though. Throwing money at IB is like pissing into the wind, you just know there's going to be upsells down the line and that's what pisses me off; I bought the suite I should get access to everything.

I am a very pleased XF client and will surely not pay almost full price for another version of VB, especially since the 4 version was so bad.

And if they don't win the lawsuit, what are you going to do?

What makes u sure they won't win ! Case might be dragged bit longer but certainly they have fair chance of winning case . It's just IB has lot of money xenforo depends on customers.

Honestly, I don't really care if they win or not, I'm sticking with vBulletin until the end of time.

Use the script as it is and hire programmers to work on anything more I need. There's like hundreds of people who know how to work on it, if I need support, I will pay, just as people pay me to create custom themes for their sites. They (I mean VB) shouldn't be allowed to ask me to not use it, I have paid for it and it would mess up my business. Anyway, even if it's the case, I can migrate to another platform, even VB, even if I don't like it that much anymore. A script is merely the 'engine' for my 'fancy' car. I can surely get another one. Of course it would cost me time and money, but no one said running a forum is easy.

The two communities I manage both run vB 3.8.x. We planned to make the move to XF but are waiting for the outcome of the trial.

We lost faith in vB with the whole 4.x debacle, and we're not too happy with their actions regarding XF. However, we're not saying we won't upgrade to 5.x if it's a worthwhile product.

vBulletin 4 is actually quite nice, especially if you implement a few plugins - IE, there's a tagging/notifications plugin on vB org, and its real nice.

Sorry, but I'm not impressed with it. I don't wait to derail this thread, but I will say that I did download and convert multiple forums on a test domain and found it unbearable. And we REALLY tried to make it work, but had to give up because it was taking up to much of our time and we were quickly losing brain cells. The same thing happened when we tried IP.B.
