I finally got to order my new desktop. The first two I'd originally picked out were both out of stock this morning. :(

I settled on an AMD A8 processor with 16 GB of RAM. I'll be set with this one for quite a while. My first choice was a getup with an i7 processor but seeing as that was out of stock and I'm impatent I picked up the A8 processor it's still quad core and heck most programs don't take advantage of the extra cores properly anyhow plus a majority of my work is in the browser or a text editor - What do I need all that processing horsepower for?

$749 with a 23" monitor included you cannot beat that with a stick. In a few days I'll be surfing in style again. :D

Congrats! I recently upgraded my box as well

Do you have a link to the one you got?
    Do you play games?
Why did you go with 16GB of RAM?

That's one huge and powerful setup. I doubt you'll use the majority of that 16GB of RAM though :P

    Here's the link: http://www.walmart.com/ip/ZT-Affini...ard-Drive-and-Windows-7-Home-Premium/19582517

I got 16GB because It was the most I could reasonably afford. I buy my computers so they'll run me comfortably for a good 2-3 years before I have to either throw more RAM in or get a whole new machine for more processing power. Plus I'm sure that I'll eat some of that 16GB up with my virtual machines. This box is expandable to 32GB, so I'll be good for a while, hehe. With this machine I'm sure I'll be able to run Windows 8 without problems. ;)

The first machine I picked was $899 everything was the same but it had an i7 processor. There was another one with the i7 that had a Bluray drive. Both were out of stock this morning good thing because I saved myself $150. I really don't need all the processing power of an i7, I doubt I'll even need all the processing power in this rig right now. A vast majority of my work is in a text editor or browser. For the few times a year that I encode a DVD, I can wait.

Just my luck it hasn't shipped yet. Every time I've order from Wal-Mart it ships that night. Now that I'm feening for my new computer all that's shipped is the stupid ink tanks I ordered with it.

That's a good ass machine you picked out. I could probably use 16 GB of ram for all the music I always get online :P
My music folder itself is 4.83 GB and my hard drive has 133 GB
    I still have 77.7 GB I haven't used lol(laptop of course):evillaugh:

Got good news I've been refreshing Wal-mart's site all evening and finally got tracking information on the computer and separate webcam/speakers shipment. Everything is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow!

Now, I'm like a kid on Christmas. I'm going to sleep early so I can wake up and transfer all my non-Dropboxed files to a freshly formatted external. I'm putting this monitor and my Mac out in the living room for the family to use.

My music folder is hovering somewhere around the 12 GB mark, that's all in my Dropbox though so I don't have to worry about transferring that. It's funny my laptop and even my old desktop had fairly large internal HDs. I never use even 1/2 of it. My movie collection always stays on externals. Though with a 2TB internal drive I might just throw them all on that.

I made a good call by leaving all my externals FAT32 format, except for one Time Machine partition. This way I can just plug them into my new computer to transfer. The Time Machine partition can be nuked as I don't need.

Holy bat poop. My music folder used to be closer to 25GB. Amazon had a but load of a free MP3 downloads and I grabbed all of them. They sucked so I trashed 'em after a while.

Update on the shipping. The computer, speakers, and webcam are on the truck for delivery. Now the ink which was originally supposed to come first is coming tomorrow. Not that I'm complaining they just pulled a switcharoo on me. :p

I use the Youtube convertors to get music.
@Brandon Holy crap. How long have you been building on that music folder? I had to start over when we reset my laptop so my folder is about 4 to 5 months old.

I got a big chunk of it from a friend when I backed up his music before working on his computer. So a ton of that is rap...boo
I like rock and metal, I still have 40-50gigs of my music in there.
