When you're running an online community - which type of layout do you like to chose? Dark or light skins, and why?
It kinda depends on what the community is about, some communitys fits better with a dark skin and vice versa. But mostly I like something in the middle, not to light but not to dark either.
I personally prefer dark skins myself but always give options for both light and dark as people have different tastes and there is no harm in attempting to accommodate for different tastes in skins.
I agree with you on that. Like some gaming forums tend to go to the darker colors - where other forums tend to go to the light colors. Do you think its okay for an owner to offer both type of skins to users or do you think it doesn't really matter?
I think it is perfectly okay fo an owner to offer both a light and a dark skin to their users, its there choice but in that case I think they should have the same features and not to favor one skin and add extras or modify them more to look good with a specific mod if you have that. I have seen many forums under my years on the internet that have there main skin and then just install other themes without changing them to there forum. My personal preference though is that you have the same skin for everyone and maybe just have different colors to make it lighter/darker.
I've never been a fan of dark styles, always liked lighter ones. I've tried in the past to offer a dark and light style for the users, haven't set one up here yet though.
Well, what exactly is your preference? Personally, I don't care, as long there's good quality content.
That seems the motive behind a lot of forums these days. I believe dark = gothic. I've merged your thread with the other one that has been out for a while.
I prefer light skins too. Dark skins are hard on the eyes for long periods and generally if I sign up for a forum I intend to be reading a lot.
I'm a light skin kinda guy. Some dark skins are very hard to read and can be very very annoying and a huge turn-off to potential new members registering. I always found it best to have your default skin to be light and offer a dark alternative members can switch to if they prefer darker skins.
