    Hello everyone,

As you see by the stats, we’ve had a giant influx of post and members; these are from the old General-Forums.com forum that I’ve been running a few years. That forum is mainly based on an older forum called AlienSoup, I picked up in 2010. I had merged a half dozen tech and general forums into it while I had it up and running. You’ll see a lot more “general post” on Admin Talk, but you’ll also see a ton of new threads in our development forums and our tech/internet forums. This will be a great thing for Admin Talk, it’s going to take a month or two to get fully indexed. I’ve already setup a redirect from GF to AT so it shouldn’t take that long for the new threads to start getting indexed. I had talked it over briefly with the GF members and they were supportive of the idea. I have some work to do still and will need to rethink out portal page to help prioritize our new content. I’ve also brought our active admin over; please welcome @Monster as our new staff member.

Let me know if you have any questions, there are several parts of GF that I’d like to highlight, but I don’t want to drown out any admin support people are trying to get here.

I’m looking forward to the merger and the new possibilities it’ll bring us.

PS.. to the members of GF, sorry I wasn't able to bring your "likes" or profile comments over, I had to import the data to a 2nd script in order to bring it over here.
I am working on bringing the meda that was posted, as well as the blogs over here if possible. I know a few of us were using those.

also.. I'll email those users from General-Forums at some point, may wait till I have time to work on the portal one.

PPS.. Please like any old post you see, since they didn't come over none of those post have "likes" :(

It'll also give those users an alert and they may come back earlier

Just with a quick look to the portal we have a few options as to how we set that up, it's my next task.
We can have individual portals with links above to each one, or we can make a new layout and fit more content into what we have now.

There are benefit to both, I like the one simple setup but I also like having multiple pages if you will, and have areas to showcase different parts of the site. We could use that for graphics, tech, dev, each having their own page that X usergroup could promote to those portal pages..

never mind, I wasn't looking at the right thing.
Either way, the home page is what I'll be working on next.

    *edit*

I do know users should be able to customize their home page

We could setup some custom widgets for more options.

If I come across any of your old posts, best believe I'll like the content. It's a set back, but everyone will be able to get their likes back. Thanks for coming back!

I have to admit, while the additional posts and members are nice, I'm not quite a fan of the whole merge thing. Something bugs me about it, probably that it seems like it was only done to get quick activity and make the forum look more active than it actually is.

It also seems like (don't kill me for saying this), Brandon's main way of getting forum activity now is literally to buy out smaller competitors and merge them into his forums rather than doing more posting/promotion/etc.

Also, did that contest start yet?

I don't know how you make a forum look more active then it is, you can see the new post the past two days.
I've been running both GF and AT for over a year now, GF longer.
I haven't had the capital to purchase any forums lately, although I would if I could.

Maybe this deserves it's own thread if you want to discuses it more, buying forums and merging.. etc
The contest is on hold because the points mod we're using had errors, I'm told those are fixed now but that developer also sold his site. I don't want to start the contest again every three weeks because we find bugs with the plugin. I've kept the points mod installed and hope to start up the contest again asap.

The reason I merged the sites is so I could focus my resources on one site, focus my links on one forum. I knew there was a lot of great web/dev/tech content on GF, if that hadn't been there and it was manly "general chatter" I wouldn't of merged them.

Hope that answered some of your questions @CM30

Nice! Now I have 612 posts! :) I part of the elites now! :P
Newsflash: You don't. You just lost an opportunity to create a network.

If I were you, I would have just bought another admin forum to merge into AT to make it look more active. But hey, it's your choice.
    Hm. Seems reasonable!

I wouldn't say lost, there are other ways to make a "network" & I had tried the networking two forums idea, I didn't care for it. ;)

When combining two forums into one, wouldn't you want to change to a new forum name?
