How many forum owners here use their real name as their username? If not, do you use an alias? If so, how long have you going by the alias, and why not your real name? Personally, I go by my alias which is cpvr, and some of my users know my real name. I prefer that over anything. How about you? Ad User: Forum © XenAdShare from Surrey Forum
I prefer to go under my name Ashley and then .S. after it for my surname to form Ashley.S. and I've been going by Ashley.S. since around 2007 I think. I've previously gone under the alias of emuXzone though when I ran a site called emuXzone
My real name is Mohammed but names like that is confusing as there is loads of mohammeds in the world and someone might mistaken me for someone else.
I went at "loco.m" for the longest time.(long back story behind it) I started using my full name a few years ago when I started my business. I have my name as @Brandon on this forum and my other one.
I agree with you on that. My name is Carlos, but I don't use it as my username. I've been using cpvr since 2006 and its just stuck with my since. I used to go as cpvrdnpmp though, and I changed that one up. My members know my real name though so its all good.
I use my real name. I would use a cool alias, but never thought of one I like enough to refer to myself as it. If I was to use an alias, I wouldn't keep y real name hidden. I like the personal feel.
I've always used a variation of my real name; Deejay Dan, DJ Dan, Big Dan, Danny Boy, etc. Lately, I've been moved to using my full name on any boards I plan on spending any time on.
To me it really depends on a members status as to what type of name is chosen. Personally, I use a variant of names on different communities ands here's why: Regular member or just looking for temporary information or 1 time poster (disposable account) = alias Regular member only visiting once or twice a month, but mainly for the backlinks / self promotions = alias Regular contributing member at a community I frequent regularly each week = Business Name Regular contributing member or moderator I frequent daily = Business Name or Real Name Regular contributing member at a community used for genuine networking visited daily = Business Name or Real Name Super Mod = Business Name or Real Name depending on the situation and position responsibilities Administrator = Real Name because it's more professional to address a community as a real person That's my ideology anyways about username choices. - Eric -
lol, ya, you have to take the good with the bad of it, I've had a few stalkers myself over the years. For the most part though, as long as you don't have anything to hide and cool with the news media picking up on you one day and launching you into front page stardom, you'll be ok
My inner-circle friends know my real name (first name only) in my forum and I've recently decided to use both; my real name, as well as my alias, Gal Pal. I will post most of the time post under my alias as that seems to have lots of reason's to do so, i.e. as in offering opinions or suggestion type posts. I'd rather post under an alias for those posts....I guess. I'm still trying to work all that out in my mind on what is best too!
I used to do this but found that I used to get given a lot of crap about it. Pick a username that you can use that you like that you won't get picked on about.
I am using my 'alias' dojo since it's what I have used for 10 years, it's the name of my business (dojo design) and also all products I create are branded with this.
Aside from this site and a few other admin forums(I am forever young on all those forums) i generally use my real name with maybe a slight variation of it
