Google, the company that has been fighting against paid links and “thin” content, seems to be behind a campaign that’s generating both on behalf of its Chrome browser. File this under “what were they thinking.”

    “This Post Sponsored By Google”

Aaron Wall wrote about the campaign today at SEO Book, spotting how a search for “This post is sponsored by Google” brings back over 400 pages written apparently as part of a Google marketing campaign:

I was just reading about this the other day, and really its their own product that they're trying to push. They're fighting for market share with Firefox, IE and a few other browsers, so why not use paid campaigns to try to move up? I agree its wrong, but who are we to tell that they shouldn't be doing it? Ridiculous, I know.

I agree. My thing issue is the hypocrisy of it. Google's been saying for quite a while that buying links is a no-no and that they will penalize sites for it. So Google turns around and buy links.... WTF Google!

It's only a matter of time before Google gets slapped with an anti-trust suit ala Microsoft in the 90s. Google's been favoring home baked stuff more and more lately.

Google and Twitter broke up, that's that. Google is pushing it's own products more and more aggressively and who's to blame them. if they don't they'll end up with more dead services like Wave and Picasa. *sigh*

The trouble is when a large company starts pushing in-house services over competitors especially with a dominating force in the market like Google has with searches.

Think about it Twitter enjoys (or used to enjoy?) decent rankings in Google. Now Google built an in house alternative and is giving that the same ranking. Google appears to be snuffing out the competition. It's akin to

With all of Google's in house services the top 10 results aren't even top 10 any more for lots of searches the top 5 are Google served think about how many sites are bumped off the first pages because of that.

Ya, its getting quite ridiculous as to what's happening. Why can't Google respect Twitter's words and show fair results?

    http://mashable.com/2012/01/12/google-twitter-social-search-at-symbol/

Maybe Twitter should say Screw Google and create their own search engine or something? I don't know, but Twitter content should be in the search results - and if the usernames have a lot of followers and such, then they should rank higher for relevancy and such.

....because Twitter is bitter about the agreement between the two? Here's how I read it so far:

    - Google offers Twitter $1 billion, but Twitter took offense to the offer and thinks that Twitter is worth more than 1 billion. [source]
    - Google can't find Twitter results if they wanted to.
    - Google launches Plus platform.
    - Twittter throws a fit over twitter tweets over privacy reasons.
    - Google was nice enough to include twitter results until Twitter starts being a child about it.
    - Google is adamant that they don't use "@" symbol in results.
    - Twitter gets mad and then.....
    - Kaboom. Google takes Twitter out of results...

    - Therefore hurting brands.
