Yes, my very first forum was hacked back in 2009. Somebody managed to wipe the server it was on and I lost everything with it. Since then though, I've used it as a medium to chat with friends and share stuff.

My community and my other myspace website was hacked in 2009 - this is because I trusted someone inside my server who shouldn't have had access.

None of my websites have been hacked from what I can remember. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Sorry to hear thats why you have to be careful with who you trust.
I have had that happen as well. I lost my general discussion forum that way.. all the sites on that server were hacked. The hosting was crappy.

What did your host do about it? Did they keep backups?

Ya, I don't trust anyone inside my server now - except for my host, and developer. Other than that, nobody else has access. It also taught me how to secure my computer - with being behind a firewall, better passwords, and things like that.

What are you doing for backups now? Do you use r1soft for off-site backups?

My site was hacked not just once but twice in 2010. Once in January and once again in March. If it happens a third time that's probably when I really will give up owning a forum for good. Just too much hassle to wait for everything to be restored, and I'm not exactly what you would call patient.

Older forum. We were on a different host and it was a totally different database. The one we have now is a restart that we came up with in August of 2010.

Yeah, it wasn't fun, let me tell you. That's why I was one of the many members on Forum Promotion who were pissed when that one member decided to stage a hacking of his forum for April Fools. Just because your members were able to take it lightly doesn't mean some of the rest of us will. It was a pretty sick joke to say the least and if a forum ever tried that one on me, I would probably be logging out faster than I registered. Forum hacking is not a laughing matter, and those of us who have been victims of it, we know what it feels like to have a site hacked...Not a happy camper with that member at all. I was a member of his forum and you can bet I will NOT be going back to that site anytime soon.

Yea it was pretty low of that other Admin Forum. I was surprised as its not very professional for an Admin Forum to do that.

I remember there was a competitor forum that staged a hacking, and blamed some of my staff members for it. Its not right to do it, but some people do it for kicks, and try to ruin other's reputation. It's sickening/
